Updated: Jul 27, 2021

Armored from Indonesia

For many years, heavy metal in Iran has naturally extended as a musical trend in that country. Seven years ago during a research for local bands, ARSAMES, poped out and we had the pleasure to interview them privately at that time. This day, Heavy Metal in Iran has grown, not only at the national level, but also in other Muslim countries. Our Heavy Metal curiosity in these states began after a report on a television network that told about the success of "ORPHANED LAND."An HM Israeli band they managed to enter in Muslim countries without any social problems, and some even say they remain, the only Jews who to play in Palestine. With no doubt we say that HM, with the turn of the century, represent a musical trend worldwide, with which, fortunately, the greatest evolution has enjoyed in the last three decades.

Collecting testimony of various lyrics, in the music of these ancient lands and we were impressed with the theme contained in this, from mythology to fiction. The mixture of local musical instruments, with Arabic scale, in harmony, fans of these bands generate something original and old school. Although HM is banned in Iran, new bands, nevertheless, appear. In 2015, two of the members of ARSAMES were sentenced to 14 years in prison and 74 lashes for playing HM (Death Metal). The full list of charges includes “insulting the sanctity of Islam”, “disturbing public opinion through the production of music containing anti-regime lyrics and insulting content and for participating in interviews with the opposition media” and “insulting the Supreme Leader and the president.” According to Khosravi, they escaped execution through a loophole in Iran’s practice of Sharia Law. “If you insult the Prophet, you will get executed, because he’s dead and can't defend himself. But if you blaspheme God and question his existence, he can forgive you. That was why we didn’t get executed,” Khosravi told.

There were also additional charges for leaving the country. As reported by Metal Injection, the duo made bail of £24,000 each and was released from prison in Evin in 2017 to await sentencing. The band then fled to Turkey and filed for an appeal against the charges. They currently reside in Norway, where they were granted asylum and are able to continue making music.Confessing just released a new single, “Evin”, which is named after the Iranian prison where they were held. The track will be included on their new album, "Revenge at All Costs", most of which was written in 2016 and 2017 while the band awaited their first trial in Tehran, Iran, and focuses on their time in prison. In other Muslim countries, this kind of problem apparently does not happen. Bands from Turkey to Indonesia are giving their air for free, even having bands Death Metal from this country, women as front-leaders.
